I recently saw a Pinterest pin where fantasy game characters were on “Wanted” posters. What a clever idea! That got me thinking: What would Wanted Posters of my book characters look like?
Not all my characters are bad guys. Most of them aren’t even criminals. Well, except for the main characters in book three, Manjucatus The Not So Mean. This novel is about a dragon who gathers a gang of thieves to help him steal treasure. That allows me to create fun posters of these characters using artist Cat Salinas’ watercolor sketches.
Here they are—Enda’s most wanted criminals in all their glory. Enjoy my old West wanted posters. Listen to Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead Or Alive or Blaze Of Glory while you read this for extra fun. I played both songs while I wrote this.
1. Manjucatus
This wily dragon would steal the gold from his grandmother’s horn ornaments. Treasure means power and respect to this young dragon. With enough riches, he will be promoted to dragon master in his guild. No one will dare call him “Apprentice Manny” with his dead uncle’s gold, silver, and jewels.
2. Shimmer
She’s a dragpar, not a dragon, and don’t you forget it! Shimmer is the daughter of Rory, chief of the dragpars from Scath Mountain. She’s a clever thief with a heart of gold and a fist of iron. Watch out. She punches when angry, too.
3. Chief Rory
Steal first and ask questions later. That’s Rory’s motto. Unfortunately, this has gotten him into trouble, especially when it comes to silverware. Spoon necklaces are his thing, you know.
4. Laurin
A coblen miner with an obsession for magic gemstones. Laurin was outlawed when he stole from the other coblens and possibly murdered his father. Or was that just an accident? He’s the brain behind many jewel heists.
5. Alberich
As Laurin’s brother, Alberich is strong, tough, and quick with his crossbow. He is not a big talker; he lets his brother do the talking and thinking for both of them. Not many coblens know he is a gifted sculptor who loves music.
6. Joan
This tiny lady can steal your coins and neatly organize them according to size and metal. Joan is a winged fairy type known as pasheen. Pasheen are part fairy and part cat, and even though they’re only 6 inches tall, they can shoot stinging darts that will drive away even a troll.
I hope you enjoy these posters as much as I enjoyed making them. This crazy crew of villains is getting together for a major heist in my new fantasy novel, Manjucatus The Not So Mean, which will be released in February 2025.
In the meantime, enjoy the short story “The Treasure of Manjucatus,” parts 1, 2, and 3.
