How Adorabelle Got Her Own Book

Hooray! It’s finally here! Book 2 from Tales of Enda is finished. ADORABELLE THE NOT SO ADORABLE is on Amazon. You can now read about Adorabelle the loatron’s fight with mermaids, dragons, her mom, her friends, and anyone else who gets in her way.

How did a minor character from my first book get her own book deal? I started ADORABELLE THE NOT SO ADORABLE (Affiliate Link) in September 2019. Book 1 –SARGON THE NOT SO GREAT (Affiliate Link) was being revised and read by beta readers. One of the questions I asked readers was, Who was your favorite character? Almost everyone agreed that Sargon’s little sister Adorabelle stole the limelight by fighting, biting, and then running off to become a Viking. They wanted to learn more about the feisty little loatron. I agreed. Adorabelle should have her own book.

But would that peachy-pink loatron have enough character to carry an entire novel? Silly question, Adorabelle can do almost anything she sets her mind on. So, I grabbed a notebook and started planning. I did a character sketch answering questions about Adorabelle and her goals and dreams. Basically, she wants to be a warrior—end of story. However, this twelve-year-old loatron had no clue what a warrior really was. She thinks “might makes right”. Her mother, Bunny wanted her to learn to cook, clean, and be polite. She failed. Her friend and mentor Ulfbert taught her to use a sword but couldn’t teach her patience or self-control.

At the end of Sargon The Not So Great, Adorabelle is in big trouble. Read the book if you want to know what she did to infuriate her mother and the entire town of Clewside. I started book two with her punishment. Washing dishes in a pie shop. What could be more humiliating for a warrior? Plenty. Let’s get her into a fight with mermaids, in the middle of an oceanic war, and take away what she prizes most. Her strength and ability to fight. Take that warrior loatron!

Middle Grade Fantasy Novel
Brought to you by Sargon The Not So Great, the novel that started it all.

While plotting out her novel I imagined what caused Adorabelle to want to become a warrior. She grew up hearing stories about her father who was killed by a dragon and what a great warrior he was. But is that the only reason? What if she saw a great warrior in action? What if a brave warrior saved her life and he impressed her so much, she decided it was the career for her? This backstory turned into a short story which I published on this website. Fair Trial explains where Adorabelle’s dream started.

Fair Trial 1- A short story from Tales of Enda
Why does Adorabelle want to be a warrior?

Now that I had a goal I developed a storyline to humble and teach my loatron to think about anyone besides herself. She had to learn to make friends and keep them, put others first, and give up her dream if it meant helping save her family and friends. In other words, Adorabelle had to grow up.

For the past five years, I have written, revised, and edited Adorabelle’s book. Readers, I hope you enjoy her fights and antics as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Comment below and let me know what minor character in a book stole your heart and how you wish the author would write a book starring them. Spoiler alert, the sneaky dragon Manjucatus from Sargon and Adorabelle is getting a book deal, too! After you read Adorabelle tell me if you agree with me that he needs an adventure as well.
