Book two from Tales of Enda is coming out next month. Allow me to introduce you to the main characters from Adorabelle The Not So Adorable. Artist Cat Salinas included gorgeous watercolor headshots of the characters. Enjoy!
Let’s start with the star of the book Adorabelle, daughter of Bunny.
Adorabelle is a peachy-pink loatron around twelve summers old. Her dream is to train to become a famous loatron warrior like her father. Read the short story Fair Trial to see where this idea came from.
Although beautiful like her mother, Adorabelle curses like a sailor and starts more fights than a grumpy Viking. The town of Clewside considers her crazy, but funny. Just don’t make her mad.
Joining Adorabelle on her adventures is her friend Brigid. Even though Adorabelle considers her a weak human girl, she admires Brigid’s kindness and loyalty. Quiet and shy, Brigid hides her twisted hand which was burned in a fire.
Brigid has a brooch passed down from her mother. Mermaids are after the brooch. Adorabelle and Mathan are chosen to help her on a quest to destroy the pin before the sea-folk find it.
Another loatron in the book is Mathan. When Sargon goes on a trip he asks his friend Mathan to try and keep his little sister Adorabelle out of trouble. Poor Mathan. No one keeps Adorabelle out of trouble. The best he can do is go with her on her quest. He’d rather be home working in his vegetable garden.
So much for the heroes of the story. What about the villains? Raquell is a mermaid who sees herself as a heroine destined to unite the bickering mermaids and help them rule the sea around Enda. With herself as their queen, of course.
Raquell needs Brigid’s brooch to give her complete control of the sea and the other mermaids. She’ll show everyone that beauty is not needed for true power.
Shelly the mermaid has everything she wants, except friends. She’ll use her magic shell to help Raquell become queen and then she won’t need friends. She will have riches and power. That’s all she really needs, right?
Last, but not least, is the villain Manjucatus. Or Manny as he hates to be called. Manny is a dragon and like all dragons he wants one thing, treasure. Now Manny can’t be bought, but he can be bribed and mermaid treasure is perfect for a young dragon just starting his own horde.
There you have it. The main characters in my new novel. Adorabelle The Not So Adorable is filled with other mythicals both good and bad. You’ll have to wait until the February release to meet the rest. Some of these characters can also be found in Book one of Sargon The Not So Great.
Thank you again, Cat Salinas, for the watercolors. Comment below and tell me who you like better in a fantasy novel, the hero or the villain?
